As points are worth about 2.5-2.9c each towards Amtrak tickets, that means you should get north of a thousand dollars worth of value out of this bonus towards train tickets. Quick Thoughts

A few years back, Amtrak revamped its loyalty program (See: Amtrak Guest Rewards 2016 — Better than expected. My take and recommendations.). In short, the value of points is now tied to the cost of tickets. You’ll get 2.6c to 2.9c per point toward paid tickets depending on the train you’re taking.

That makes the value of this offer quite strong. You should get about a thousand bucks in train tickets (maybe more) plus the hundred dollar statement credit. That’s a lot of bang for the buck considering the spending requirement is only $2,500 in 90 days.

It’s worth noting that there are also other potential uses of Amtrak points. See: Loyalty alchemy. Turn Amtrak coal into United gold, and more…. In short, you may get even more value out of transferring to Choice or United, though it’ll either require elite status with Amtrak or $20K in spend on your Amtrak World Mastercard.

While this is obviously a niche product that doesn’t have the mass appeal of traditional transferable currencies, it can certainly be a good offer for those in the market.
